Aleem Dar, A Former Umpire, Shares His Heartbreaking Tale of Losing His Daughter

Having begun playing cricket in his teens, Aleem Dar is a talented international umpire. Initially, he was a batsman in cricket. Without much time, he made the switch to umpiring and quickly established himself as a superb official who represented Pakistan globally. Many matches have been upended by Aleem Dar. Itemized, he officiated 145 Test matches, per ESPN Sports. There are 231 Twenty20 matches, 72 T20 matches, and 5 WT20 matches. March 2023 saw him retire. Dar left the prestigious panel of umpires on March 16, 2023, having served for 19 years. Aleem Dar looks up to Steve Buckner as a mentor.

The talented Umpire most recently made an appearance on Samaa TV’s Samaa Lifestyle program. The umpire told the heartbreaking tale of losing his newborn daughter while traveling abroad on the show.

Aleem Dar discussed it, saying, “I umpired World Cup matches in 2003.” It was the beginning of my career and an international tour. With 12 experience officiating international matches, I was the youngest umpire on the panel. That marked a sea change in my life. My daughter died at the age of seven months while I was preoccupied with the World Cup. My family kept the news from me for a month since they knew it was the beginning of my career, and my wife withheld it from me. My father strictly told me not to tell anyone, but I found out from someone I met in Johannesburg. Even though the World Cup was almost finished at that point, my wife broke down in tears when I told her the news. I then boarded a flight to Pakistan.” This is the video’s link:
